Asmaa Khaled Habshiyeh was born in 1967 in Barzeh –Damascus. She is a supervisor at a non-governmental school in the capital Damascus.
Asmaa Khaled Habshiyeh was involved in active and peaceful demonstrations, and actively volunteered in the field of medical aid.
She was arrested by military intelligence on the Syrian-Lebanese border at al-Masna point during her return from Lebanon on 21 February 2014. Between 12 and 13 pm she informed her sister by phone that she arrived at the border and that her passport was stamped by an official. Right afterwards, the phone call was dropped. Her sister tried to call her back but the phone was out of service. The family found out through private sources that Asmaa was detained in the security branch of al-Masna on the Syrian-Lebanese borders for a full day. She was then transferred to the political security branch.
Since the arrest, the government has not given Asmaa’s family any official information on her whereabouts, despite repeated inquiries by her family through communications with National reconciliation commission.
She was finally released on 28 August 2014.
