Born in 1984, married and the father of two children, Bilal Ahmad Bilal worked for Falesteen Al-Yom TV until his arrest by the Assad regime on 13 September 2011, a few months after the start of the uprising.
Detained in Damascus as he was about to leave for Beirut in connection with his work, he was interrogated by air force intelligence and then transferred to Sadnaya prison. Among other things, he was accused of providing foreign media with information about the regime’s use of violence against civilians.
According to some sources, he would have died in prison in December 2013. In January 2014, one month after his alleged death, a military court sentenced him to 15 years in prison.
On 29 April, the family received a letter from the authorities informing them that he had died in detention. They have not yet been able to recover the body.
