Mazen Darwish has been released from prison on 10 August 2015. He had been arbitrarily detained since February 2012, for promoting freedom of expression and monitoring gross human rights violations committed in Syria.

Mazen Darwish was listed in the amnesty decree granted on 18 July 2015. Hussein Ghrer and Hani al-Zaitani were released on 17 July and 18 July 2015, respectively.

Despite the amnesty decree, the three human rights defenders are still on trial before the Syrian Anti-Terrorism Court on accusations of “publicizing terrorist acts,” Their trial, which had already been rescheduled twenty-five times since February 2013, is scheduled for 31 August 2015.
