Samar Kokash was born in 1973 in Damascus. She is a mother of two children, and is an actress who also contributes to dubbing children television shows. She is a graduate of the Higher Institute of Dramatic Art. Samar never participated in any political activities, but helped the displaced and wounded population in the besieged areas of Damascus countryside.
Samar was arrested by the Military Intelligence Division on 11 Novermber 2013 while she was passing through the exit door of the Customs Free Zone area in central Damascus from her way back from her job at the recording studio. Her personal mobile phone and laptop were confiscated from her during her arrest.
Samar was held in Kafarsosa section 215 and then transferred to Adra prison on 17 December 2013. She was interrogated by an investigating judge in the Court of terrorism on 15 January 2014 and her arrest in Adra prison was extended. Samar was referred to the criminal terrorism court where her first hearing was held on 3 April 2014.
During her third hearing on 17 December 2014, Samar was sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 5 years on charges of financing terrorism.
Samar is currently serving her judgment in Adra prison and is in bad health conditions. She is in need for medical care for her heart and high pressure conditions.
